FAQs before you buy

Why is progeCAD so cheap?

Compared to some of progeCAD's major competitors, the cost of a license is very low.  But is it cheap?  As a company, we wouldn't spend £250+ on new software without being sure of its features and compatibility with existing systems.  Download a trial version and evaluate the software in your own working environment.  We believe that you will conclude that progeCAD is excellent value rather than cheap.  This is powerful, solid, honest value CAD software.

Is progeCAD based on AutoCAD?

No.  progeCAD 2008 professional is based on IntelliCAD 6.4, developed by the IntelliCAD Consortium.  progeCAD has support for the .dwg file format, developed in cooperation with the Open Design Alliance.  As such, progeCAD users can open and create AutoCAD compatible files.  The products have a very similar look and user experience is also very similar, but progeCAD and AutoCAD are totally independent products.

Which is better, progeCAD or AutoCAD?

AutoCAD is great; progeCAD is great.  Both products can be used to develop highly detailed 2d and 3d drawings, utilising custom line types, LISP and VBA customisation, use of layers and multiple layout support.  Like AutoCAD, progeCAD supports integration with databases and data from other applications, along with many other advanced features.  The products share common commands and have very similar interfaces.  If you have trained on one system, you can easily switch to the other with no significant loss of productivity.  The decision about which is the better choice is best made by you, once you have weighed the features available against your needs.  This is why we invite you to take a free trial of progeCAD software before making a decision.  Many progeCAD customers supplement their more costly, but often essential software by adding progeCAD licenses to their existing network

Is progeCAD easy to use?

In common with all professional CAD software, developing skilled use of progeCAD requires a degree of discipline and dedication, along with appropriate training, tutorials, manuals and so on. Owning progeCAD will not turn anyone into a draughtsperson or engineer.  Having said that, progeCAD will look and feel very familiar to anyone who is already working with CAD software.  The great thing is that we have free licenses of progeCAD 2008 or progeCAD smart for student or non-commercial use, enabling you to develop your skills without the burden of expensive licenses.  We are based in Southampton, Hampshire.  We can provide training for individuals or groups; please contact us for more information.

What support is provided with progeCAD?

Before buying, you can access the trial users' forum on the progeSOFT website.  We will also support you, initially via email, referring your queries to progeSOFT where appropriate.  As progeCAD becomes more popular, a range of Internet based support is growing; we are committed to adding to that support.
